"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season...Jesus came into Galilee
preaching the gospel...And he gave some, evangelists... Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel...For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gosple...it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe...How
beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace...These things, speak
and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.  Let no man despise thee...Let a man so
account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God."

"A preacher works for Christ, not the congregation;  he preaches to, not for, the
brethren.  He works for God with brethren.  He comforts the afflicted and afflicts the
comfortable.  He spends himself and is willing to be spent.  He becomes all things to
all men to save some. The temptation is to give "the right hand of fellowship" when
they need "a kick in the shins.  I Cor. 4:2 is comforting - preachers are not asked to
be successful - only faithful"  Charles Hodge
